The Retreat is a trauma-informed yoga studio, home of:

Mindful Somatic Yoga & Therapy for embodied healing.
.

The Retreat Yoga Studio is a beautiful space, a sanctuary, where everyone is made to feel welcome.
Our teachers are exceptional and caring.
We share our love of this life-changing practice through authentic movement and deep contemplation.
Yoga at The Retreat is an opportunity to listen deeply and grow more understanding and compassion toward ourselves.
We use traditional yoga with somatic therapy, functional movement and other mind-body practices
to unveil more ease in both body and mind.
Through embodied practices we build strength, mobility, resilience, flexibility and
support the nervous system to find restoration, relaxation and calm.
Although you will be challenged, we don’t focus on severe poses or making the body fit the pose,
rather authentic self-inquiry and allowing the pose to fit the body.

Yoga at The Retreat is for anyone wanting to move, breathe and BE with more ease,
it is also great support for anyone experiencing the challenges of stress, anxiety, trauma and illness.

We look forward to welcoming you home to The Retreat.  Sanctuary Within.

“And I said to my body, softly,
‘I want to be your friend.’
It took a long breath and replied,
‘I have been waiting my whole life for this.’”
~ Nayyirah Waheed

Embodied Flow

Embodied Flow classes are suitable for the beginner and seasoned practitioner.

Using yoga and somatic techniques, we connect with our body and the internal experience to cultivate a sense of awareness and integrate body, mind and spirit. We gain insight and develop our capacity to be with more as we build strength and flexibility in both body and mind. These classes gracefully flow through gentle and challenging yoga experiences from floor work to standing postures and incorporate breath, balance, mobility, functional movement, self-awareness, acceptance and deep relaxation.

Classes are layered and everything offered is an invitation, empowering you to choose an approach and intensity that feels right to you in the moment.

Embodied Flow is empowering, it builds strength, stability, balance and flexibility both on the mat and in our lives off the mat. It helps us to relieve stress and tension, connect safely within, be fully present, and find calm (even when challenged) and it keeps our physical body toned, flexible and strong.

Welcome yourself home to your body.

Note about ‘Embodied Flow (Strong)’
All Embodied Flow classes offer strength, and are inclusive. Classes noted ‘Strong’ highlights there will be the opportunity to build to a strong/challenging practice within the class.

Mindful Yin

Our Mindful Yin classes are suitable for the beginner and seasoned practitioner.

Yin yoga is a meditative floor based practice that involves stillness and passively holding poses for longer periods of time, usually 3-5 minutes.  With a sense of curiosity and acceptance, we explore the present moment experience without expectation or judgement.

These longer holds stretch and release the connective tissue of the body, increase circulation in the joints, improve flexibility and energy flow, cultivate inner awareness and promote relaxation.

Yin is the perfect complement to other physical practices and often hectic lifestyle, it leaves you feeling nurtured, spacious and at ease.

Inner-Strength Pilates

This is a Pilates class designed to build inner strength and resolve. It combines the spiritual and philosophical principles of yoga with the core strengthening and body conditioning of Pilates. Experience a sense of empowerment as you explore this grounding practice, and discover the benefits of stability, strength, resilience, embodiment, and confidence. In this class, we not only work on building physical strength and flexibility but also cultivate self-awareness, responsibility for how we show up in the world, and a greater sense of inner strength. The integration of Pilates and yoga makes for a dynamic and holistic workout that is empowering and nurtures both body and mind. You may find that you are stronger than you realise.

Somatic Rest

Somatic Rest classes are suitable for the beginner and seasoned practitioner.

Restorative yoga is a gentle, nourishing and therapeutic style of yoga that uses props to support the body and deepen the benefit of long-held, mostly still poses.  It incorporates therapeutic yoga, somatic work and other embodied body-mind practices to deepen self-awareness.

It is a soothing, nurturing practice that brings a sense of balance and restoration to the nervous system, promotes the effects of conscious relaxation, and brings you into the healing capability of your own body.

Beautiful as a complement to our often hectic and fast paced lives, restorative yoga can be especially beneficial when experiencing anxiety, stress, illness, fatigue or injury.

Embodied Movement & Dance

Experience the body through movement.
This class is a movement journey that begins with a yoga inspired warm-up, and safely guides you through dance, movement and self-expression, to establish a sense of freedom.

Embodied Movement & Dance is an enjoyable way to improve overall health and well-being as it releases tension, eases rigidity, promotes creative self-expression and improves one’s mood.

Dance and movement improves physical fitness, strength, coordination and flexibility, it alleviates stress and anxiety, improves self-esteem and body image, encourages play and fun, and can be a way to connect with something larger than oneself.

Present Moment Awareness

Mindful Meditation – 30mins

Mindfulness is the practice of bringing one’s awareness to the present moment, without judgment. It involves noticing one’s thoughts, emotions and sensations in a non-reactive way, and cultivating a sense of curiosity, kindness and acceptance. Mindfulness helps to reduce stress and anxiety, improve focus and concentration, and increase self-awareness. Present moment awareness enables us to respond to our experiences in a calm and mindful way, without getting overwhelmed, or caught up in old stories and ruminating thoughts about the past or the future.
